Fire Chief Michael B. Sherman has been in the fire service for 31 years and has held the ranks of Firefighter/EMT-B, Driver, Captain, and Fire Chief.  He holds an A.S. Degree in Fire Technology from Chaffey College (1981), a B.S. Degree in Fire Administration from California State University at Los Angeles (1984) and a MBA with Presidential Honors (1996).   He has been a fire service instructor and facilitator for strategic planning processes and executive recruitments for over 20 years.   He obtained the status of Executive Fire Officer from the National Fire Academy (1989) and in 2003 and 2006 he was awarded the international Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD).   He is a NFPA certified FF II, Fire Officer III, and Fire Instructor II.   He is currently a member of the National Fire Protection Association, International Fire Chiefs’ Association, the California Fire Chiefs’ Association, the National Fire Academy Alumni Association, the NFA Executive Fire Officers’ Association, and life member of the Oregon Fire Chiefs’ Association.

Chief Sherman and his wife of 29 years, Betty, have a son that graduated from George Fox University before joining the Newberg Fire Department and a daughter that graduated from California Baptist University as part of their first NAIA National Championship swim team.   He is active in his church and sports.   He is a current member of the Crestline Rotary Club, Past President of Newberg (OR) Noon Rotary Club, and the Oregon Fire Chiefs’ Association as well as the past chairman of the Northwest Management Seminar.
